BESPOKE DETACHED DWELLING, HORBURY
PROJECT DETAILS
A long sweeping driveway which is heavily landscaped provides access to the dwelling. The building footprint is “L”shaped in form providing a double garage with a covered link to the dwelling and accommodation provided over two floors.
The footprint form was derived from the requirement to maximise the morning and evening sun in the kitchen and living room respectively. The proposed use of the South facing elevation formed an attractive patio area and the ground floor living accommodation could be opened up onto this terraced area making the most of this sunny aspect. The building formed a half courtyard shape around this area which would offer protection from prevailing winds and this space had the potential to become a very well used outdoor area which would become integral to the internal living accommodation. The master bedroom is to the north east elevation providing a cool retreat.
The driveway leads to a terrace which provides main access to the dwelling. Inside the property the impressive entrance was achieved by incorporating a mezzanine floor within the entrance hallway so that upon entering the property you experienced a striking double height space which is well lit by roof lights. This central entrance lobby is at the heart of the dwelling allowing ease of circulation throughout. The ground floor accommodation provides a guest WC and a formal living room with glazed doors leading to the terrace. The bespoke kitchen has a seating area which leads to the terrace and a separate utility and WC. A formal dining room leads onto the rear terrace. The master bedroom has an ensuite with walk in shower and separate dressing and wardrobe area.
The first floor accommodation is located within the roof and would consist of two further bedrooms, a house bathroom, a large office space and two large storage areas.
The palette of materials used seeks to provide subtle emphasis to the different elements of the fenestration, these include an ivory render contrasted with a red multi textured brick. The Welsh blue roof tile harmonises with the brick and render. Timber windows and doors are utilised throughout, these have been painted cream to blend with the dwelling. This attention to detail is even reflected in the use of cream guttering and soil pipes.
